Pearl River, NY – 08/17/2026 – Urban Electric Power (UEP), a leading developer and manufacturer of rechargeable zinc-manganese dioxide (Zn-MnO₂) battery energy storage systems, today announced that it has achieved Awardable status through the Chief Digital and Artificial Intelligence Office’s (CDAO) Tradewinds Solutions Marketplace.

The Tradewinds Solutions Marketplace is the premier offering of Tradewinds, the Department of War’s (DoW’s) suite of tools and services designed to accelerate the procurement and adoption of Artificial Intelligence (AI)/Machine Learning (ML), digital, and data analytics capabilities.

UEP’s solutions are designed to deliver safe, long-duration energy storage in environments where safety is paramount. The company’s aqueous-alkaline zinc chemistry contains no flammable electrolyte and has no thermal runaway propagation mode, enabling deployment inside occupied buildings, hardened structures, and confined spaces without dedicated fire suppression infrastructure. UEP systems are manufactured in the United States from domestically available zinc and manganese materials and have been proven through more than 12 million hours of operation.

“Energy is the constraint on almost every mission the Department is trying to sustain, and safety dictates where storage can and cannot go,” said Gabriel Cowles, Interim Chief Executive Officer of Urban Electric Power. “Our chemistry removes that constraint - it is safe because of what it is made of, not because of what we build around it. Awardable status through Tradewinds means a Department of War customer with an energy resilience problem can move from a conversation to a contract without waiting out a competitive procurement cycle. For critical missions, that speed matters as much as the technology.”

UEP’s solution video, Rechargeable Zinc Aqueous Battery Energy Storage Systems for Energy Resilience, accessible only by Government Customers on the Tradewinds Solutions Marketplace, presents an actual use case in which the company deployed its Zn-MnO₂ battery energy storage system to provide resilient, long-duration power to critical loads. UEP was recognized among a competitive field of applicants to the Tradewinds Solutions Marketplace whose solution videos demonstrated innovation, scalability, and potential impact on DoW missions. Government Customers interested in viewing the solution video can create a Tradewinds Solutions Marketplace account at tradewindAI.com.
